Punjab Activates Three 'Baaz Akh' Anti-Drone Units on Pakistan Border

Punjab procured the systems from ECIL under the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign to bolster BSF operations along the 553-km frontier.

  • Three Baaz Akh units were unveiled in Tarn Taran, introducing Punjab’s first state-deployed defence against illicit drone incursions.
  • Under the ₹51.4 crore Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign, six more portable ADS systems will join the operational network imminently.
  • Electronics Corporation of India Ltd supplies the state-procured systems following field testing with Ministry of Home Affairs sign-off.
  • The state police will work alongside the Border Security Force, Air Force, Army, other agencies in a multi-agency effort to intercept drones carrying narcotics and weapons.
  • Punjab seized 283 smuggling drones in 2024, followed by 137 recoveries in 2025 so far, prompting the technological upgrade to counter rising drone-based trafficking.
