Overview
- The Environment Protection and Climate Change Department has deployed automated Air Quality Monitoring Stations across major districts, described as Pakistan’s first IT-enabled province-wide system.
- Stations deliver continuous, high-resolution measurements of PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, O3, CO and NOx, supported by meteorological sensors for conditions that drive smog formation.
- A public dashboard and mobile app now provide live AQI, pollutant concentrations, seven-day hourly trends, 24-hour averages, and an initial early-warning forecast for Lahore.
- Data flows automatically from analyzers to a central server and then to dashboards and the app, with 24/7 operation, hourly updates, built-in calibration and UPS backups.
- Officials say the live data is already guiding more targeted actions, including industrial compliance checks, anti–smoke-emitting vehicle operations, stubble-burning response teams and brick kiln monitoring.
