Pune’s Metropolitan Surveillance Unit Goes Live in Kasba Peth

The unit is part of a 20-city PM‑Ayushman Bharat initiative linking municipal disease tracking with national systems.

  • The Pune Municipal Corporation said the MSU is operational, with a formal launch to follow.
  • MSU staff completed a three‑day training with the National Centre for Disease Control from September 23 to 25.
  • A September 25 meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram aligned coordination with AAI, IMD, Indian Railways, FDA, NIV, WHO, MPCB and other departments.
  • Housed in a 5,000‑square‑foot facility at Jawale Bhavan in Kasba Peth, the unit will drive rapid data collection, disease analysis, laboratory strengthening and public health action.
  • Officials said the MSU will map ward‑level trends, advance One Health collaboration and is being equipped to rank among the country’s most advanced units.
