Overview

• Vehicular access will operate from 6 am to 10 pm each day starting October 11 until further notice, according to a press release by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav.
• The crossing near the Pune Municipal Corporation building has been shut since April 21 for a pedestrian cable bridge linked to the Deccan Metro, and the work remains incomplete.
• Police say the time-bound reopening targets heavy Diwali shopping crowds in central Pune, which have been causing congestion in mid-city markets.
• From October 15, heavy vehicles will be restricted on the Mumbai–Bengaluru highway between Katraj and Kivale during peak hours, with bans from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm, and exemptions for essential services.
• The bridge was briefly reopened for the Ganesh festival before closing again on September 9, and residents, activists, and traders had urged authorities to allow limited access for the Diwali period.
