Pune Sinkhole Swallows Municipal Truck, Driver Escapes Unharmed

The sudden collapse near City Post Office has sparked safety concerns and political debate.

A Pune Municipal Corporation truck fell into a sinkhole at the City Post Office premises in Budhwar Peth on Friday afternoon.
The driver of the truck, which was there for drainage cleaning, managed to escape unhurt as the truck sank rear-side first.
Fire department officials, along with 20 personnel, conducted a three-hour operation to retrieve the truck and two two-wheelers that also fell in.
Pune Municipal Commissioner suggested the sinkhole may have been caused by an old well covered with interlocking cement blocks.
The incident has led to a political clash between NCP's Supriya Sule and BJP's Chitra Wagh, with Sule calling for an investigation into road quality and Wagh accusing her of spreading false narratives.
