Pune Sets 40 Kmph Speed Cap on Katraj Bypass From Dec. 4

Officials acted after a structural assessment using international traffic data following the fatal Navale Bridge crash.

Overview

  • The order fixes a 40 kmph maximum from Bhujbal/Bhumkar Bridge to the end of Navale Bridge on the Katraj Bypass, effective December 4.
  • Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav issued the directive under Motor Vehicles Act Sections 115, 116(1)(2)(B), 116(4) and 117.
  • Violations will be detected and penalised through CCTV monitoring and speed‑gun surveillance, according to the traffic branch.
  • Emergency service vehicles such as ambulances, police cars and fire brigades are exempt from the cap.
  • The move replaces a temporary 30 kmph limit imposed after the November 13 crash, cancels prior notifications and includes an appeal for drivers to watch speedometers and signage.
