Pune Police Seek Interpol Blue Notice in Hunt for Fugitive Gangster Nilesh Ghaywal

Authorities turned to Interpol after he allegedly left India on a fraudulently obtained passport.

Overview

  • Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle said police have asked the central government to request an Interpol Blue Corner Notice to aid Ghaywal’s extradition.
  • Some outlets report that Interpol has issued the Blue Notice, while police continue efforts to confirm his location overseas, with travel suspected through London to Switzerland.
  • A separate FIR alleges he obtained a passport illegally following a 2019 tatkal application that listed an address later flagged as “not available” by Ahilyanagar police.
  • A 2022 bail order required him to surrender his passport, which he did not do, and police did not act on the noncompliance.
  • After September 17 shootings and an attack in Kothrud, two FIRs were filed and MCOCA was invoked against Ghaywal and eight associates, and police are also searching for his brother Sachin amid questions over an arms-licence recommendation that Ajit Pawar says was not issued.
