Pune Police Invoke MCOCA, Transfer Probe to Crime Branch After Teen’s Killing

  • Police report eight arrests to date, including alleged gang leader Suryakant ‘Bandu’ Andekar, his daughter and two grandsons detained in Mehkar, Buldhana.
  • Investigators say the teenage engineering student was shot on September 5 in Bhavani Peth in suspected retaliation for the 2024 murder of Bandu’s son, former corporator Vanraj Andekar.
  • According to the Crime Branch, Aman Yusuf Pathan and Yash Siddheshwar Patil opened fire while Amit Prakash Patole and Sujal Rahul Meragu handled reconnaissance and logistics.
  • The case has been handed to the Pune Crime Branch after approval to apply MCOCA Sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2) and 3(4), and a coordinated manhunt is underway for additional accused.
  • Police say Bandu travelled from Kochi to Mumbai to Nashik to Shirdi before being apprehended in Mehkar, and investigators are still seeking the weapons, motorcycles and clothing used in the crime.
