Pune Planetarium Debuts India’s First Digistar 2025 System, Opens Public Bookings Ahead of ISRO Live-Streams

Equipped with space-agency content in a 360° high-resolution dome, it will soon welcome non-ASM visitors through an online portal ahead of multilingual live broadcasts of ISRO missions.

Overview

  • The planetarium at ASM’s Abhinava Primary School now offers dedicated weekly astronomy sessions for classes 5–8 and supports an Amateur Astronomy Club for hands-on sky-gazing.
  • Funded by the Vidyalakshmi Foundation, the 50-seat facility uses Evans & Sutherland’s Digistar 2025 projection system to deliver immersive 360° visuals and real-time simulations.
  • Built-in programmes grant seamless access to shows from ISRO, NASA and the European Space Agency, plus in-built show-building software and dome-casting capabilities.
  • A dedicated online booking website will launch in the coming weeks to allow students from other schools and the public to reserve weekend shows.
  • Under a new MoU with ISRO, the planetarium will stream upcoming missions such as Chandrayaan live in Hindi, English and Marathi within the next month.
