Pune Metro Reconfigures Mandai Access, Extends Hours for Ganeshotsav Crowd Control

The moves aim to disperse festival crowds after Mandai recorded 44,000 riders on the first day.

Overview

  • Passengers heading to the Peth areas are urged to alight at Kasba Peth or Pune Municipal Corporation stations and use Mandai primarily for return trips.
  • At Mandai station, entry is restricted to Gate 3 near Lokmanya Tilak’s statue and exit to Gate 2 on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, in effect until 6 am on September 7.
  • Pune Metro will run late-night services through the festival, operating until 2 am from August 30 to September 5 and providing a continuous 41-hour service on September 6–7 for Anant Chaturdashi.
  • Officials cited safety concerns from criss-cross crowding after Mandai’s footfall spiked to nearly 44,000 on August 27, up from the usual 16,000.
  • Commuters are advised to use digital, WhatsApp or One Pune Card tickets, give lift priority to elderly, women and those in need, and follow queueing at station entrances and exits.
