Overview
- Pune Metro has issued a work order for 15 new three-coach trains and 45 additional coaches, raising the fleet to 49 trains (147 coaches) from the current 34 trains (102 coaches).
- Deliveries are expected within two years, aligning the rolling stock upgrade with a full commissioning of the Phase 2 corridors by 2029.
- The Union Cabinet approved two elevated Phase 2 routes covering 12.75 km with 13 stations between Vanaz–Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi–Wagholi at a cost of ₹3,626.24 crore.
- The ₹3,626.24 crore project will be co-financed equally by the central government, the Government of Maharashtra and external agencies.
- The expanded fleet will enable Pune Metro to reduce peak-hour headways from seven minutes to five and eventually three minutes, strengthening integration with IT, educational and residential hubs under the city’s mobility plan.
