Pune Metro Line-3 Inaugurated Virtually, Service Set to Begin Wednesday

By easing commutes between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar, the 23.2 km elevated Pink Line depends on urgent feeder‑road and utility work to connect riders to stations.

Overview

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Pune Metro Line-3 on Tuesday and passenger services are scheduled to start at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
  • The fully elevated 23.203 km corridor links Maan near Hinjawadi’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park with Shivajinagar and will open 17 of its 23 stations in a phased rollout.
  • Seven of the initially opened stations will operate with limited access such as a single staircase while remaining civil and last‑mile works continue.
  • Local authorities have ordered accelerated work on feeder roads, stormwater drainage, power substations and land acquisition to improve access for Hinjawadi IT commuters.
  • The project was built under a DBFOT PPP at an estimated cost of Rs 8,313 crore, includes 7.60 MW of solar capacity to meet about 30% of needs, and will be operated largely by women train pilots with roughly half of station staff female.
