Pune Metro Line 3 Completes First Trial Run and Targets September Service

Built under India’s first metro public-private partnership, the 23.3 km elevated corridor will link the IT hub to Shivajinagar with significantly reduced travel times.

Overview

  • On July 4, PMRDA conducted the inaugural test run between Maan Depot and PMR 4 station on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar stretch.
  • Construction stands at 87% completion as the project moves into its final phase ahead of passenger operations.
  • Authorities plan to open the 13 km Maan–Balewadi Phata segment for commuters by September 2025.
  • Full commissioning of the 23.3 km line with all 23 stations is set for March 2026.
  • The PPP venture led by Tata-Siemens under Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd has delivered four air-conditioned train sets capable of 80 km/h and 1,000-passenger capacity each.
