Pune Imposes Festival Traffic Curbs as Ganeshotsav Crowds Snarl Core Markets

Overview

  • Weekend rush choked Laxmi Road, Bajirao Road, Raviwar Peth, Shivaji Road, Tilak Road and Bohri Aali, with police urging wider use of public transport.
  • Pune Traffic Police ordered a 24-hour heavy-vehicle ban from August 25 to September 7 on key stretches including Laxmi, Tilak, Bajirao, Shivaji, Shastri, FC and JM roads.
  • Temporary closures and diversions for idol shopping are in force from August 25 to 27 on Shivaji Road and in Keshavnagar–Mundhwa, with designated alternative routes.
  • Pune Metro will extend service hours through the festival, including continuous 41-hour operations from the morning of September 6 to late September 7, while PMPML buses are diverted on major corridors.
  • Eleven police teams with about 100 officials are surveying procession routes for potholes, lighting and CCTV issues under PMC–police coordination, with repairs underway and riverbed parking arranged between Tilak and Bhide bridges.
