Pune Hits Season’s First Single-Digit Low at 9.4°C as Early Cold Wave Spreads Across India

IMD links the drop to clear skies and north–northwesterly winds driving strong nighttime radiational cooling.

Overview

  • Pune’s Shivajinagar station recorded 9.4°C, the city’s lowest so far this season, with several district sites also falling between 6°C and 9°C.
  • Air quality deteriorated as temperatures fell, with Pune’s overall AQI at 159 and poor readings at Shivajinagar (229) and Wakad (246), according to IITM.
  • IMD reported cold to severe cold-wave conditions in parts of Madhya Maharashtra and west Madhya Pradesh, with isolated cold-wave pockets likely to follow.
  • Minimum temperatures across large areas of India ran 2–3°C below normal, dipping 2–6°C below normal in places, while Delhi logged an early-season low of 8.7°C.
  • Pune’s minimum slid from 18.6°C on November 6 to 10.2°C by November 17 before Tuesday’s single-digit drop, and officials do not expect a major further fall across Maharashtra from November 18 onward.
