Pune Ganesh Mandals to Hold Joint Summit on Early Morning Immersions

Mandals proposed 7 AM starts with capped dhol-tasha groups aimed at streamlining immersion routes to reduce congestion.

During the meeting, several Ganesh mandals raised concerns over late-night congestion and prolonged processions, urging the authorities to allow early and well-organised immersions. (HT)

Overview

  • The city’s police chief, Amitesh Kumar, denied any rifts among Ganesh mandals and said all immersion arrangements are being decided collectively through respectful dialogue.
  • On August 6, separate coordination meetings were held with regular mandals and the five Manache Ganpati mandals at the Pune Police Commissioner's office.
  • Several mandals urged permission to launch their immersion processions at 7 AM and requested that the Manache Ganpati complete their immersions by noon to avoid overnight bottlenecks.
  • Delegates recommended a “one mandal, one dhol-tasha pathak” policy to limit musical contingents and improve crowd management along key routes.
  • A comprehensive joint mandal summit is scheduled soon to formalize procession timings, route sequencing and additional safety measures.
