Pune Finalizes 41 Wards, 165 Seats in Civic Delimitation as PCMC Awaits Approval

The Pune map follows extensive public hearings, clearing the path for reservation notices with election dates to be set under a court-driven timeline.

Overview

  • PMC published the final ward structure for 41 multi-member wards to elect 165 corporators, including 40 four-member wards and one five-member ward.
  • Of 5,922 objections received, officials fully accepted 1,329 and partially accepted 69 after hearings, leading to boundary changes in 13 wards and eight ward name revisions.
  • The largest ward is Balajinagar–Ambegaon–Katraj, and several wards were renamed following citizen inputs recorded during the hearings.
  • Opposition parties including Congress, NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged the delimitation advantages the BJP, while the administration said valid suggestions were incorporated.
  • PCMC’s final ward plan remains pending with the Maharashtra State Election Commission, with officials indicating a decision could come as early as Monday.
