Pune Court Converts Rahul Gandhi’s Savarkar Defamation Case to Summons Trial

The case stems from Gandhi's alleged defamatory remarks about Vinayak Damodar Savarkar during a 2024 London speech, which the complainant, Satyaki Savarkar, disputes as historically inaccurate.
Judge Amol Shinde approved the procedural shift, allowing for extensive cross-examinations and detailed evidence submissions, citing the case's historical complexity.
The court has ordered Satyaki Savarkar to provide key materials, including a CD of Gandhi’s speech, relevant documents, and witness affidavits, which have yet to be submitted.
The next hearing is scheduled for April 25, 2025, where further developments in the evidentiary process are expected.
