Pune Charity Commission Files Case Against Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Trustees Over Pregnant Patient’s Death

The matter now moves to a Pune magistrate after a regulatory inquiry concluded the trust-run facility failed in its emergency care obligations.

Overview

  • Inspector Sachin Bakal filed the prosecution to be tried before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Pune.
  • Joint Charity Commissioner Rajni Kiran Kshirsagar found the hospital failed to provide life-saving treatment or arrange a timely transfer for Tanisha Bhise.
  • Eleven trustees of the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation are named, including Hridaynath, Bharti, Ushatai and Adinath Mangeshkar, as well as senior hospital doctors.
  • The case stems from a March 2025 episode in which Bhise, seven months pregnant with twins, was allegedly denied admission after a ₹10 lakh deposit was reportedly sought.
  • Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital disputes the findings, saying Bhise was monitored for four hours before her family left in a private vehicle, while a separate earlier FIR names Dr Sushrut Ghaisas.
