Pune Bus Rape Accused Arrested After 75-Hour Manhunt

Dattatray Ramdas Gade, accused of raping a 26-year-old woman inside a parked state transport bus, was arrested in Shirur after a 75-hour search operation.
The police used drones, sniffer dogs, and teams of over 500 personnel to track Gade, who had fled to his native village after the incident.
Gade allegedly attempted suicide before his arrest, with ligature marks found on his neck, according to a preliminary medical report.
The incident occurred within 100 meters of a police station, raising questions about safety at public transport hubs and prompting a planned safety audit by authorities.
The accused, a history-sheeter with multiple prior cases, has been remanded to police custody until March 12, with efforts underway to fast-track the case in court.
