Pulse Polio Campaigns Begin Oct. 12 in Telangana Districts and Pune

Officials cite recent polio detections in neighboring countries as the reason for the precautionary push.

Overview

  • Hyderabad will open 2,843 vaccination centres on Sunday to cover about 517,000 children in a four-day effort that includes door-to-door visits by roughly 11,200 medical personnel in 164 high-risk areas.
  • Pune’s Sub-National Pulse Polio drive runs October 12–17 with 1,350 booths and 1,912 vaccination teams targeting 312,755 children under five.
  • Telangana’s special drive spans six districts, including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal, Sangareddy, Hanumakonda and urban Warangal, with an estimated 1,756,789 children to be vaccinated.
  • Booth-based immunisation on October 12 will be followed by targeted house-to-house outreach, with Hyderabad teams operating October 13–15 and Pune teams continuing through October 17.
  • Vaccinators will also station teams at transit hubs and visit brick kilns, construction sites and relocated settlements, as authorities urge parents to ensure every child under five receives the oral drops.
