Puerto Vallarta Closes Beaches and Roads as Priscilla’s Swell Floods Coastal Zone

Forecasts point to continued hazardous surf with heavy rain.

Overview

  • Jalisco civil protection raised red flags across Puerto Vallarta as 3–4 meter waves pushed water onto the Malecón and up to Avenida Medina Ascencio, prompting coastal road closures.
  • Authorities activated an interagency operation with 274 responders, a municipal command post, beach cordons, and preventive evacuations of seafront businesses within 200 meters.
  • Reported impacts include 16 flooded shops at Plaza Las Glorias, two small boats capsized in Mismaloya, structural damage to a Malecón storefront, a damaged restaurant at Playa Camarones, 11 ramadas and a turtle camp affected at Boca de Tomates, and one flooded vehicle.
  • Officials said no major injuries have been reported as lifeguards and response teams conduct preventive patrols and urge residents and visitors to stay out of the water and follow instructions.
  • CONAGUA and the National Weather Service warn of ongoing high seas for Jalisco and nearby states, noting that blocked storm drains contributed to street flooding and advising people not to enter inundated areas or attempt to cross flowing water.
