Overview

  • State data show 169 attempted lynchings and nine completed cases from Jan. 1–Dec. 13, 2024, versus 49 attempts and three completed from Dec. 14, 2024 to Aug. 24, 2025.
  • SSP chief Francisco Sánchez González presented the figures, contrasting the last year of Sergio Salomón’s term with the first eight months under Governor Alejandro Armenta.
  • On Aug. 22 in Cuautlancingo, neighbors killed a man and injured another after an alleged robbery attempt at a tortillería, and their motorcycle was set on fire.
  • The SSP said the Cuautlancingo case was reported late, hindering rescue despite a rapid response and activation of the Protocol of Action for attempted lynchings.
  • Officials warned that swift judicial releases fuel recidivism and public frustration that can lead to mob violence, and they urged residents not to take justice into their own hands.
