Puebla Authorities Locate 11 of 12 Missing in Amozoc After Large Security Operation

Prosecutors say the group was lured by false job offers, with one person still unaccounted for.

Overview

  • Eleven detainees identified as suspected narcomenudeo operators were arrested during the sweep, and authorities seized crystal meth, vehicles and a cache with three AR-15 rifles, three Glock 9mm pistols and numerous cartridges from a white Toyota Hilux.
  • The search effort combined state, federal and municipal forces in a deployment of 197 personnel using 42 vehicles, two armored units, drones and a helicopter.
  • Reports indicate the missing were contacted through bogus security jobs, and several returned with shaved heads consistent with recruitment or training by criminal groups.
  • Disappearances were first registered in early August, while complaints filed in recent days spurred the weekend operation across Amozoc and nearby highways.
  • Prosecutors have not established a direct link between the detainees and the disappearances, and they continue multiple lines of inquiry while seeking the remaining person.
