Overview
- The Senate will exhibit the plans from 3 November after BVG submitted the planning approval documents in early October, seven months later than scheduled.
- The 1913 bridge has carried a 3.9 structural rating since 2016, so U1 and U3 trains run under speed limits and an immediate closure would be required if the condition slips further.
- The proposal would occupy 10,720 square meters of the park for construction logistics, remove 15 trees, and close main cycling and walking paths in phases.
- Heritage protection requires a full planning procedure with an environmental impact assessment, opening the door to objections and possible lawsuits that could push the February 2028–June 2030 timeline back.
- The project is part of BVG’s U1–U4 rehabilitation program, which includes a four‑month shutdown of U1, U3 and U4 at Nollendorfplatz from January and additional bridge and tunnel renewals nearby.
