Public Funeral Set Sept. 25 for Slain York County Officers

Authorities say the ambush grew from a domestic-violence stalking case.

Overview

  • The noon service will be held Thursday at Living Word Community Church in Red Lion with livestreaming and overflow rooms, while viewings and interment are private.
  • Northern York County Regional Police and partners endorsed the Honor Their Service portal, which they say directs 100% of donations to the families and the injured officers.
  • The officers killed were identified as Detective Sergeant Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser.
  • Injured officers include York County Sheriff’s Office Lt. David Godfrey, who has been identified, and a Northern York County Regional Police detective who has not been named; both are reported in satisfactory condition.
  • Officials say 24-year-old Matthew J. Ruth opened fire with an AR-15–style rifle equipped with a suppressor, wounding two and killing three before he was fatally shot in a brief exchange; Pennsylvania State Police lead the ongoing investigation.
