PTI Vows to Block Proposed 27th Amendment Over Provincial Powers

The government is still shaping the draft through talks with allies, with reported proposals touching the courts, the NFC formula and civil administration.

Overview

  • KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan said the party will resist the 27th Amendment, calling it an assault on powers guaranteed to provinces.
  • Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said the PML-N government is consulting PPP, MQM-P, ANP and BAP before finalising the draft.
  • PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto said the reported proposals include a Constitutional Court, changes to Article 243, executive magistrates, judge transfers and adjustments affecting NFC protections for provincial shares.
  • PTI submitted a National Assembly resolution signed by 34 MNAs seeking permission for Afridi to meet imprisoned party founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
  • Afridi said an Islamabad High Court-ordered meeting with Khan was not facilitated and demanded KP receive its 19.4% NFC share, claiming the province is owed over Rs7.5 billion.
