Overview
- PT leaders held talks with Hugo Motta on Monday and will bring the bancada together on Tuesday to formalize support for his 2027 re-election bid to the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies.
- With the PT on board, Motta would count about 12 parties that have publicly declared backing, which on paper creates a parliamentary majority for his reconduction.
- The PT is negotiating specific institutional concessions, seeking a first secretary or a vice-presidency on the Mesa Diretora and the chairs of strategic bodies such as the CCJ, CMO and CFT.
- The party is linking its support to fast-tracking the 'tarifa zero' PEC that would allocate roughly R$12 billion and 26.8% of mandatory emendas to fund free weekend and holiday public transport from 2027.
- The Chamber uses a secret ballot, so individual deputies can break from party instructions and the PT’s endorsement increases Motta’s chances but does not guarantee his victory in the February 2027 vote.
