PT Launches Small-Donation Drive to Settle Lula Campaign Bills

Party is asking for R$13 Pix contributions to cover outstanding obligations as its campaign accounting is finalized.

Overview

  • The PT launched the online fundraiser on Saturday, November 7, seeking R$7 million through R$13 Pix donations to pay unpaid expenses from Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s re-election campaign.
  • Official filings with the TSE show about R$128.6–129 million in donations and roughly R$93–98.3 million in declared campaign spending, figures the party says do not yet reflect all receipts.
  • Campaign financial coordinator José Filippi says the accounts are still being reconciled and that the additional R$7 million is needed to settle commitments recorded during the campaign.
  • The party published the campaign CNPJ for 'Eleição 2026 Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Presidente' to aid bookkeeping transparency and set a Nov. 11 deadline for the fundraising appeal.
  • The drive follows a legal precedent: collective online fundraising has been allowed since 2017 and the PT previously used vaquinhas in 2018 and 2022; the party also received roughly R$615 million from the special electoral fund this cycle.
