PSPV Official Apologizes After Clash Over Mazón’s 9 d’Octubre Procession Attendance

Authorities are tightening security after a PSPV leader deleted a post accusing President Carlos Mazón of “dirtying” the civic rite.

Overview

  • Carlos Mazón has confirmed he will attend the 9 d’Octubre civic procession in central València, a customary role for the regional president.
  • PSPV organization chief Vicent Mascarell wrote that the event would be hardly civic with Mazón present and said his presence “dirtying” the meaning of civility.
  • PP deputy Mar Galcerán responded that Mascarell had a very dirty mouth, and Mascarell replied “and you the mind” before deleting the post and issuing an apology.
  • Mascarell said he did not know Galcerán is the first Spanish parliamentarian with Down syndrome, and PSPV leader José Muñoz publicly praised her in the Corts.
  • The exchange disrupted the parliamentary control session, and València’s mayor urged tighter security for the procession given possible protests and the sensitive timing near the 2024 flood anniversary and wider tensions.
