PSNI Probes Cannabis Farm Found in Vacant East Belfast House

Police detailed the scale of the grow, issuing a public appeal for information.

Overview

  • The retired police officer who owns the Maymount Street terrace discovered the cultivation on November 5 while checking the long-vacant property to start repairs.
  • PSNI reported more than 40 plants in two upstairs bedrooms, about 50 in the attic and roughly 40 in the living room, along with cultivation equipment.
  • No one was inside during the police search and the inquiry remains active, with information sought via 101 quoting reference 564 of 05/11/25 or through Crimestoppers.
  • The property showed extensive modifications for ventilation, the bathtub contained fertiliser and the owner cited a sharply increased electricity bill.
  • Neighbours said a man had been coming and going and someone fled when the owner arrived, and the owner recounted an officer saying similar setups are increasingly common across Northern Ireland, often in short-term lets.
