Overview
- PSG have secured 22-year-old Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi from AFC Bournemouth on a five-year deal for a reported €63 million plus add-ons, making him the club’s first Ukrainian signing.
- Zabarnyi completed his medical on August 12 but was left out of the squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup and is expected to feature after PSG’s opening league fixtures.
- The transfer marks Bournemouth’s third major defensive sale this summer following Dean Huijsen’s move to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez’s switch to Liverpool.
- To fill the gap, Bournemouth signed 24-year-old Bafodé Diakité from Lille on a five-year contract for around €35 million plus €5 million in performance-related add-ons.
- Despite landing Diakité, manager Andoni Iraola has indicated the club still needs at least one more central defender to complete its rebuild.
