PSG Lose Dembélé for Six Weeks, Doué for Up to a Month After France Duty

The confirmed muscle tears force the champions to reshuffle for their Champions League opener against Atalanta.

Overview

  • France’s federation said Dembélé tore his right hamstring tendon and Doué tore the right soleus, then released both back to PSG for rehab.
  • PSG’s medical guidance points to roughly six weeks out for Dembélé and three to four weeks for Doué, ruling them out of the Sept. 17 Champions League debut versus Atalanta.
  • The absences are also expected to affect the Sept. 21 trip to Marseille and the Oct. 1 visit to Barcelona, based on the club’s timelines.
  • PSG criticized Didier Deschamps for using Dembélé, while the France coach said he would not have played him if he were not fully fit and noted this injury is in the right leg.
  • Compounding the disruption, head coach Luis Enrique underwent surgery for a broken clavicle after a bicycle accident, and France called up Kingsley Coman to bolster the squad for the next qualifier.
