Overview
- Tatiana Prozorova defeated Alexandra Eala 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a three-hour, nine-minute round-of-16 match on Thursday, Sept. 24, handing the world No. 18 an unexpected early exit.
- Prozorova rallied from a set down and recorded the biggest victory of her career and her first win over a top-20 player to reach the Singapore quarterfinals.
- Because Eala received a first-round bye and then lost her opening match she earned just one ranking point from the WTA 500 event and currently remains at No. 18.
- The Philippine Tennis Association has formally sought a WTA exemption so Eala can skip the concurrent China Open to represent the Philippines at the Asian Games and the tour’s decision on any sanction remains pending.
- Eala said she will analyse the loss with her team and then travel to Aichi–Nagoya for the Asian Games while the outcome of the exemption request could affect her ranking and possible fines depending on the WTA ruling.
