Proxinvest Report: CAC 40 CEO Pay Falls 9% in 2024 as Median Hits Record

Concentration among top earners, alongside a pivot toward higher fixed salaries, shaped the distribution more than the headline average.

Overview

  • Average pay for CAC 40 chiefs slipped to €6.5 million, equal to about 82 times the average employee salary, according to Proxinvest.
  • EssilorLuxottica’s Francesco Milleri led with €23.1 million, with four others over €10 million: Cyrille Bolloré, Pascal Daloz, Patrick Pouyanné and Gilles Gobin.
  • Across the broader SBF 120, average CEO pay dipped 4% to €4.2 million while the median rose 8% to €3.4 million, marking its second-highest level.
  • Proxinvest’s €5.7 million ‘socially acceptable’ cap was exceeded by 26 SBF 120 executives, up from 22 a year earlier.
  • Pay packages shifted toward larger fixed salaries and smaller bonuses, even as CEO compensation has risen 58% since 2014 versus 42% for employee pay.
