Overview
- Five deputies from Provincias Unidas sent a formal letter to the UCR National Committee requesting that no other bloc use the Unión Cívica Radical name in the lower house.
- The letter was signed by Mariela Coletta, Pablo Juliano, Martín Lousteau, Jorge Rizzotti and María Inés Zigarán.
- Provincias Unidas cites the Budget debate’s Chapter XI as cause, alleging three UCR-bloc members voted to repeal university financing, two abstained and one opposed, defying a stated party mandate.
- Pamela Verasay, who leads the bloc currently using the UCR name, expressed surprise, accused Provincias Unidas of rupture and said she had proposed a single 12-member bloc with voting flexibility.
- UCR president Leonel Chiarella has stayed publicly silent as the 15-member Mesa Nacional, reportedly tilted toward Morales–Lousteau–Pullaro allies, is expected to address the dispute ahead of the party’s February meeting.
