Proud Boy Anthony Sargent Sentenced to 5 Years for Jan. 6 Capitol Attack
Despite Claiming to Assist Police, Judge Rejects Defense and Increases Sentence
- Anthony Sargent, a member of the Proud Boys from Florida, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
- Sargent pleaded guilty to a felony charge and six misdemeanor charges, including engaging in physical violence in a restricted building and disorderly conduct.
- During his sentencing, Sargent claimed he was trying to help police officers when he threw a rock at the Capitol doors, a claim the judge called 'laughable'.
- Despite prosecutors asking for a 46-month sentence, Judge Dabney Friedrich raised it to 60 months, and also ordered 36 months of supervised release and $2,980 in restitution.
- Sargent was identified as a Proud Boys member through videos, his cell phone data, social media history, and tattoos on his knuckles.
