Overview
- Proton announced on May 28, 2026 that users can connect their Gmail accounts inside Proton Mail to import recent messages, receive new Gmail mail automatically, and send using their Gmail address from Proton.
- When connected, Proton imports recent Gmail conversations into the Proton inbox and continues to sync new messages so users can manage both addresses without switching apps.
- Proton applies its protections to Gmail content viewed in Proton by stripping trackers, ads, and spam and says it does not scan inboxes or use email content for profiling or AI training.
- The company cautions the feature is a transition tool because Google can still access emails that remain in Gmail, and end-to-end encryption only applies when both correspondents use Proton Mail.
- The feature is rolling out gradually and is set up via the Import via Easy Switch option; Proton advises updating important services to a Proton address over time and then disconnecting Gmail for a cleaner break.
