Protesters Take A100 To Oppose Expansion, Press Halt To Planned 17th Section

Opponents urge scrapping the 17th segment in light of congestion since the 16th opened.

Overview

  • Demonstrators moved onto the A100 on October 18 from the Hatun-Sürücü-Brücke toward Treptower Park, with a section of the motorway closed for the registered rally.
  • Organisers reported a four-figure turnout, while police estimated roughly 500 participants.
  • Feeder marches were registered with the Berlin police, including routes by Fridays for Future, Senior Mass and a Kidical Mass, with specific participant numbers filed in advance.
  • A coalition of groups including Changing Cities, BUND Berlin, Fridays for Future and the Clubcommission backed demands for an immediate stop, a broader road-building moratorium and repurposing of the new stretch.
  • The 16th section opened at the end of August after more than a decade of construction at about €720 million and has drawn complaints over traffic near Treptow, as Autobahn GmbH does not expect work on the 17th to begin before 2030.
