An angry mama moose (not the one pictured) chased a man down and stomped on his dogs in Colorado, officials said.

Overview

  • The incident occurred on May 26 on private property near South Meadows Campground when a cow moose with two calves chased a man and stomped his dogs, resulting in one dog’s death.
  • A day earlier the same moose charged the man’s wife, who escaped by retreating into their home.
  • Wildlife officials attempted to sedate and relocate the moose but found it moving into more remote habitat and instead installed warning signs in the area.
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife data show 25 moose attacks on humans in the state since 2017, with the majority involving dogs seen as predators.
  • Officials advise keeping dogs leashed or secured in fenced areas and steering clear of willow thickets where calves often rest to prevent future encounters.
