Prosecutors to Charge Murder After Remains Found at Boyfriend’s Home in Kylee Monteiro Case

The 22-year-old suspect is held without bail pending autopsy confirmation of remains recovered in a court-authorized search.

  • Bristol County DA Thomas M. Quinn III said investigators found human remains consistent with 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro during a search of Gregory Groom’s Rehoboth property.
  • Groom, 22, will be charged with murder Wednesday and is scheduled to be arraigned in Taunton District Court, according to prosecutors.
  • Formal identification and cause of death are pending results from the Chief Medical Examiner, the district attorney’s office said.
  • Groom was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation tied to an Aug. 6 incident involving Monteiro.
  • Monteiro, about 11–12 weeks pregnant and a recent Attleboro High School graduate, was last seen Aug. 7 near County Street after an extensive multi-agency search focused on the area; a community vigil is planned for Aug. 23.
