Prosecutors See No Theft Case After Herrenknecht Founder Removes Street Planters

Officials are weighing municipal ownership against the company’s safety claims in ongoing talks.

Overview

  • The company confirmed that founder Martin Herrenknecht ordered the removal of about 20 traffic-calming planters from Schwanau’s Herrenweg.
  • He cited visibility hazards in the 30 km/h zone, including during shift changes, for larger vehicles and in fog.
  • Part of the planters now stands on Herrenknecht AG property, with local reports saying others were placed near the town hall.
  • Police recorded the incident and notified prosecutors, who currently see no sufficient indication of theft because the items were not intended to be withheld permanently.
  • Town officials say the planters belong to the municipality and must be returned, talks with the municipality, county office and police are ongoing, and Herrenknecht has said he would repeat the removal if they are reinstalled, according to Badische Zeitung.
