Overview

  • Francesco Campagna, a 55-year-old nurse at Palermo’s Villa Sofia hospital, allegedly killed his wife, 50-year-old school assistant Maria Rita Bonanno, with a wrench and then committed suicide by jumping from their Castelvetrano home.
  • Their three daughters lived with them in the apartment block where Campagna’s body was found in the courtyard and Bonanno’s was discovered on the stairwell.
  • The Trapani Prosecutor’s Office has opened a murder-suicide investigation to establish the motive and sequence of events in the Castelvetrano deaths.
  • In Quarto, Naples, Carabinieri detained two brothers, ages 34 and 42, on suspicion of killing their 71-year-old father, Antonio Di Gennaro, after his partner filed a missing person report on June 3.
  • Investigators from the Naples Prosecutor’s Office found Di Gennaro’s body hidden inside a chest on the terrace of the brothers’ home during a search operation.
