Overview

  • Jurors learned Barclay’s phone history from July 25 included searches for news on Anita Rose’s condition, lead investigator Mike Brown and four local prisons.
  • Fifteen minutes after a self-harm query, Barclay searched ‘how long does DNA last in stool samples’ and ‘can police test DNA in poop,’ suggesting concern over forensic evidence.
  • CCTV footage showed Barclay carrying a carrier bag believed to contain Rose’s phone into a seating area on Upper Orwell Street before emerging without it and dumping the device.
  • Investigators recovered Rose’s pink jacket, phone case and Samsung earbuds at the makeshift camps Barclay occupied while living off-grid to evade authorities.
  • Detective Constable Barry Simpson identified Barclay in October and he was arrested at Ipswich Library on October 21 after giving a false name.
