Prosecutors Outline Alleged Lure and Fatal Rock Attack in Kent Beach Trial

The case centers on claims that messages sent under a fake name drew Alexander Cashford to the meeting.

Overview

  • Opening the case at Woolwich Crown Court, prosecutor Kate Blumgart KC described how three teenagers allegedly arranged the encounter using the alias “Sienna.”
  • Jurors heard that Alexander Cashford, 49, met the group by chance on August 8 and agreed to meet again on August 10 at the sea wall in Leysdown-on-Sea.
  • Witnesses told the court they saw a 16-year-old boy throw large rocks with force at Mr Cashford as he lay on the ground, while the group shouted that he was a paedophile.
  • Police and witnesses reported multiple injuries, including severe facial trauma and a lump on the back of his head, and he was pronounced dead about 68 minutes after the meeting.
  • A 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 15 and 16 are charged with murder, cannot be named for legal reasons, deny the charge, and the trial continues.
