Overview
- Dortmund prosecutors formally identified two locations in Kamp-Lintfort—the Rossenrayer Feld gravel pit and a deposition area on Hedgestraße—where contaminated soils were allegedly placed.
- Preliminary samples from those sites found elevated carbon and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAK); the material is not classed as the most dangerous waste but fails the thresholds for lawful filling.
- Investigators also listed additional suspect areas, including parts of the Garzweiler mine, three sites in Heinsberg district, the former Zeche Amalia in Bochum, a Graf Bismarck construction pit in Gelsenkirchen, and a habitat site in Recklinghausen.
- Roughly 40 suspects are under investigation on allegations of falsified delivery paperwork, with April raids uncovering more than 50,000 allegedly fake weigh tickets and seizing files and digital media.
- Prosecutors cautioned the current tests are snapshots but said there are sufficient indications of larger volumes of polluted material, as calls grow for clear remediation plans and stronger oversight.
