Prosecutor Seeks Prison for Andrea del Boca and Restitution in 'Mamá Corazón' Case

Defense arguments come next ahead of the court's verdict.

Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (R) visits a meat market with Jose C. Paz's Mayor Mario Ishi (L), actress Andrea Del Boca (2nd L), Buenos Aires province governor Daniel Scioli (C, back) and Secretary of Commerce Guillermo Moreno in Jose C. Paz, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, May 12, 2011. Argentine President Cristina Fernandez said on Thursday she is "not dying to be president again," deepening speculation about whether she will run for re-election in an October 23 vote. The center-left leader has a giant lead ahead of opposition candidates in election polls, but she is keeping the country guessing over her plans. Overview

  • Federal prosecutor Fabiana de León asked the TOF7 tribunal to convict Andrea del Boca as a necessary participant and requested a three-and-a-half-year prison term.
  • She also sought four and a half years plus perpetual disqualification from public office for former planning minister Julio de Vido, and four years for ex-UNSAM rector Carlos Ruta.
  • The prosecution asked for US$3.126 million in joint restitution to the State, leaning on an SGN audit that flagged irregular clauses and a no-bid contracting process.
  • The case centers on alleged triangulation through UNSAM to fund the series and on a 60-month international exclusivity clause with an optional 60-month extension despite public financing.
  • Del Boca’s defense argues she fulfilled her contract and cites a Supreme Court expert review that it says found no irregularities as defense closings begin before a verdict.
