Prosecutor Seeks Four-Year Term for Ex-Tennis Pro — Ex-Footballer Gets Community Service

Authorities pursue penalties to restrict coaching access, protect pupils.

Overview

  • Dutch prosecutors demanded four years in prison, including six months suspended, for former tennis professional and trainer Dennis van S. on accusations of sexual acts with two pupils, one of them a minor.
  • The prosecution also requested compulsory treatment, an eight-year professional ban, and a five-year no-contact order, arguing he abused his position as a coach and former top player.
  • Van S. claims the encounters were voluntary and occurred after the pupil reached adulthood, a version the prosecution rejects based on statements; the court plans to rule on 5 November.
  • In a separate case, the Breda court sentenced ex-footballer Marc Höcher to 100 hours of community service, with 40 hours suspended and a two-year probation period, for sexually approaching a 16-year-old pupil via WhatsApp.
  • Judges cited misuse of the age gap and his coaching role, with chat screenshots and an earlier confession supporting the case, and noted he was summarily dismissed and now struggles to find work following media attention.
