Overview
- Ruth Lawrence, 45, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anthony Keegan, 33, and Eoin O’Connor, 32, on a date unknown between 22 April and 26 May 2014.
- The jury heard both men suffered fatal gunshot wounds, with Mr O’Connor shot in the head and stomach and Mr Keegan shot in the neck and head.
- Opening the case, the prosecution said Ms Lawrence shot Mr O’Connor and her boyfriend then fired again and also shot Mr Keegan, alleging the pair acted in concert.
- The bodies were found on Inchicup Island on Lough Sheelin on 26 May 2014, near Patrick’s Cottage on the Westmeath shore where Ms Lawrence lived with Neville van der Westhuizen.
- A 12-person jury of three men and nine women was sworn by Mr Justice Tony Hunt, with proceedings expected to run to 14 November and evidence to include forensic, pathology and mobile‑phone analysis led by counsel Michael O’Higgins for the State and Patrick Gageby SC for the defence.
