Prop 50 Special Election Nears Finish as Officials Urge In-Person Ballot Drop-Off

USPS processing changes may delay Election Day postmarks, so voters are being urged to use drop boxes or vote centers to ensure their ballots are counted.

Overview

  • Kern County reports 78,000 ballots returned out of 463,000 eligible voters, a 16.8% turnout as of Thursday.
  • Attorney General Rob Bonta advises returning ballots early or delivering them to any official drop box or vote center, including on Election Day.
  • Polls close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 4, with initial results expected to start arriving that evening.
  • Voters should use a black or blue pen and fully fill in the oval on mail ballots, and those with damaged or mismarked ballots are encouraged to vote in person.
  • Most ballots feature only Proposition 50, while voters in Delano and McFarland will also decide local tax measures, and provisional ballots are available for those who still need to register.
